Restoring Hearing Loss From Middle Ear Bone Problems

Ossiculoplasty, or ossicular chain reconstruction, is a procedure used to treat ossicular chain discontinuity. This condition most often happens when chronic ear infections destroy middle ear bones. In ossiculoplasty, your surgeon bypasses the diseased bone with a prosthetic device that allows sound waves to be passed to the inner ear.

The success of ossiculoplasty depends on the exact problem. For some people, we’re able to restore almost 90% of hearing. Other people get back 50-75%, depending on their individual problem. The surgery can be repeated until optimal hearing ability is achieved.
