About Joni K. Doherty, MD
Joni K. Doherty, MD, PhD, FACS, is board certified in otolaryngology with subspecialty certification in neurotology, reflecting her advanced training in skull base surgery and parts of the brain and nervous system related to hearing and balance. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
One focus of her cutting-edge research is acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma), a noncancerous tumor on the main nerve leading from the inner ear to the brain. Dr. Doherty’s research interests also include otosclerosis, hearing loss and restoration, chronic ear infections and cholesteatoma, an abnormal growth of skin behind the eardrum.
She is the recipient of a National Institutes of Health Career Development Award for research into acoustic neuromas and serves on the Temporal Bone Experts Committee of the National Institute for Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.
Dr. Doherty is a California native who grew up in Los Angeles County. Away from work, she enjoys yoga, cooking and spending time with friends and family.
