Erin Kaufmann, AuD, is one of few clinicians in the Los Angeles area that is a board-certified specialist in pediatric audiology Dr. Kaufmann provides comprehensive services for diagnostics, hearing aids, bone conduction devices, and cochlear implants for patients from infancy through age 21. She works collaboratively with families to help achieve individual communication goals and improve access for learning. She also works with a multidisciplinary team at Keck Medicine of USC that includes other clinical and educational providers to ensure each patient receives optimal, comprehensive care. In addition, Dr. Kaufmann is fluent in American Sign Language.
Dr. Kaufmann prioritizes building trust and fostering open communication with patients and their families to create a space where they can feel respected and confident in the treatment plan. She views the patient and their family as the captain of the team, and she sees it as a privilege and a joy to be part of their team.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Kaufmann is an active researcher. She is currently involved with a pediatric single-sided deafness (SSD) study exploring the benefits of cochlear implantation for these patients. She is also focused on strategies to enhance coordination of care and make it easier for patients and families to access the resources they need sooner.
Dr. Kaufmann’s role includes helping educate the next generation of providers. She is a clinical assistant professor of otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and serves as a mentor for audiology students through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Dr. Kaufmann grew up in Orange County and loves spending time outside. When she’s not working, she enjoys being with family and friends, playing sports, surfing, hiking, rock climbing and snowboarding.
“As a pediatric audiologist, I believe my job is to provide my patients with complete access to language and communication, which helps them foster relationships with family and friends and opens opportunities for learning. I believe in providing developmentally appropriate autonomy for my patients and advocating with them for what we believe will create a future where they can be and do anything they dream of.”
