Dr. Lerner graduated from State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine in 2002. He completed a transitional year internship at Wilson Memorial Medical Center in Johnson City, NY from 2002 – 2003, and then completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Jacobi Medical Center in Bronx, NY in 2007. Dr. Lerner came to the University of Southern California to complete his fellowship training in Neuroradiology from 2007-2008. He has been a member of the faculty of the Department of Radiology since 2008. He earned his CAQ in Neuroradiology in 2010.
Dr. Lerner is currently an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology and Director of Clinical Functional MRI. He serves as the director for the 4th year medical student Neuroradiology clinical clerkship. Dr. Lerner has been an invited speaker and at multiple radiology societies at regional and national levels. He has also authored and co-authored multiple publications and book chapters. Dr. Lerner serves as a member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Neuroradiology and as a reviewer for multiple medical journals. He is an active member of the Los Angeles Radiological Society, Western Neuroradiological Society, American Society of Functional Neuroradiology, American Society of Neuroradiology, and Radiology Society of North America.
Dr. Lerner’s research interests include advanced MR imaging using Functional MRI, DTI, MR Perfusion and Permeability Imaging of the brain and spinal Cord
He specializes in the diagnosis of disorders causing headaches, neurovascular compression disorders, CSF flow disorders, epilepsy, inflammatory and degenerative disorders of the CNS.
