About Julie Culver , LCGC
Julie Culver, MS, LCGC, CCRP, is director of genetic counseling at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, a part of Keck Medicine of USC. She provides genetic counseling and testing to individuals and families at risk of inherited cancer. She utilizes a personalized approach to help patients optimize their cancer treatment and develop a cancer prevention plan to reduce the risk of cancer. She also has an active slate of research, education and mentoring projects.

Culver is a nationally recognized expert in optimizing cancer screening through genetic testing and risk assessment for women at high risk for breast cancer. Since 2004, she has taught a cancer risk assessment course to oncology specialists, including physicians, surgeons and other trainees at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and other training programs.

A National Institutes of Health-funded investigator, Culver conducts research on genetic testing for hereditary cancer, medical decision-making following genetic testing and implementation of genetic testing in diverse communities. She has published extensively on hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, as well as colorectal and other gastrointestinal cancers.

Culver co-leads a weekly cancer genetics board, where she reviews cases with colleagues and provides mentorship to junior genetic counselors. She also co-leads an internship program at USC to train aspiring genetic counselors.
“I care deeply about the impact of cancer on personal well-being. I aim to help families understand how genetic information can be used to protect themselves and their relatives from cancer.

“This is an exciting, evolving field with breakthroughs in research that help us provide better care to our patients. I enjoy getting to know my patients and teaching them about genetics.”
