Dr. Schuckman is a urologist at Keck Medicine of USC, who specializes in minimally invasive urology and urologic oncology.

Here’s what you won’t find on her resume.

Fishing led her to surgery.

“I always wanted to be a surgeon. I loved fishing but hated eating fish. I would dissect them with an open encyclopedia on my parents’ kitchen table!”

She still has items to check off her bucket list.

“I love to travel anywhere, with a tent and a backpack! I’m looking forward to when I can hike the Pacific Crest Trail, bike the Amalfi Coast and witness the great migration in the Serengeti.”

Her family and yoga occupy her free time.

“When I’m not working, I’m either spending time with my family or trying to hit a yoga class. Actually, I would love to be certified as a yoga instructor. I’ve always dreamed of opening an adaptive studio for patients recovering from surgery and chemotherapy.”

She knows there’s always more to learn about being a mom.

“I’m currently reading The Emotional Life of the Toddler by Alicia F. Lieberman, PhD. I need all the help I can get!”

These words still ring true to her.

“In life, there is no such thing as a dress rehearsal.”

Anatomy has been a driving force in her career.

“I applied to medical school, because I was always really fascinated with the nuts and bolts of anatomy and how things work. At some point, I realized that by being a surgeon, I could apply this love to curing people and making their lives better.”
