Our USC Acute Rehabilitation Unit brings together a world-class team of doctors, physical and occupational therapists, speech therapists, dietitians and nurses to help you recover and get back home to the life you love.
We specialize in inpatient rehabilitation services for a wide range of conditions, including stroke, spinal injuries, organ transplantation, heart issues, cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders.
During your stay, your care is managed by physiatrists — doctors who specialize in physical rehabilitation — who will work closely with you, your family and caretakers to design a rehabilitation plan tailored just for you.

Our team uses the latest advances in rehabilitation medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy to help you improve physical and/or cognitive impairments due to a major injury, surgical procedure or illness.
To start, you need a patient assessment. All patients are evaluated prior to admission to determine their potential to participate in and benefit from inpatient rehabilitation. This includes a review of their medical, physical and cognitive condition, previous and current levels of function, and psychosocial and cultural background.
To participate in our inpatient rehabilitation program, patients must meet the following guidelines.

Referral patients may be admitted from a hospital, surgery center, clinic, skilled nursing and long-term care facilities, as well as from home.
Our USC Acute Rehabilitation Unit at Keck Medicine is one of the top-ranked rehabilitation programs in California. Our patient outcomes consistently rate above national standards in several categories.
Patients may be discharged to their home and/or with family and caregivers, as well as other options, including board and care facilities, assisted living facilities and transitional-living facilities.
