Richard J. Paulson, MD

Dr. Paulson is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. His major interest is reproductive aging with a particular emphasis on human embryo implantation. Dr. Paulson has been the director of the Fertility Program at USC since 1986. Under his leadership, the program published several landmark investigations addressing the effect of age upon female fertility, including the first observation that it was the egg, and not the uterus, that aged and that egg donation could therefore be used to extend the reproductive lifespan in women over 40 (New England Journal of Medicine, 1990) as well as women over 50 (Lancet, 1993). USC led the way with egg freezing in the early 2000’s and established one of the first fertility preservation programs. In 2021, USC Fertility became part of HRC Fertility and the practice is now located in Pasadena. Dr. Paulson has published over 200 scientific studies and has been the recipient of numerous research awards. He is past president of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and is the editor-in-chief of F&S Reports. He has been listed in "The Best Doctors in America" continuously since 1994.
